As of September 1, mobile phones may be banned in French high schools. While the Constitutional Council rejected the ban on social media for children under 15, this measure concerning high schools is indeed coming into force. Teachers' unions believe it will be "totally impossible" to implement within the given timeframe.

A tool that has become essential for high school students

Students surveyed expressed a strong reliance on their phones for their schooling. They use them to check Pronote (grades, timetables, classrooms), answer online multiple-choice questions via QR codes projected on the board, access the digital workspace (ENT), and conduct research during study periods, due to a lack of sufficient computers. "Without Pronote, without our phones, we'll always be late," one high school student summarized.

Uncertain implementation

Some establishments had anticipated the rule by allowing pedagogical use in class while prohibiting mobile phones outside of lessons. But most high schools are not ready. Teachers have not received any clear directives and fear having to "play police." Students, meanwhile, are anticipating gatherings in front of the establishments.
